How you do it
Add the parts to find how many shares there are, divide the total by that, then multiply up for each part. If you are given the difference between shares rather than the total, divide the difference by the difference in parts instead.

What you learn
A ratio compares two or more quantities, showing how much of one there is for every amount of another. To share a quantity in a given ratio, first count the total number of parts, find the value of one part, then multiply for each share. A ratio also tells you what fraction each part is of the whole.
