How you do it
Speed is distance divided by time, and the triangle rearranges it for whichever you need. Convert units before you calculate — minutes to hours, metres to kilometres — and remember 1 hour 30 minutes is 1.5 hours, not 1.3.

The groundwork here is the four operations and unit conversion. It is Foundation and Higher tier material at GCSE and iGCSE. It reappears throughout compound measures and rate problems.

On a distance-time graph, time is along the bottom and distance is up the side. Average speed = total distance ⁄ total time — including any time spent stopped.
